In honor of Lavely & Jannie celebrating ten years of marriage, on 11/10/2010, they decided to make this anniversary extra special. They dressed up and had a beautiful tablescape, cake, glasses of champagne to celebrate it in downtown Providence, RI. They met in Pawtucket, RI through Jannie’s cousin who happened to go to the same high school and was good friends with Lavelay. Jannie came down from New Jersey where she was living at the time and he introduced them. After that, they have been learning and growing closer to one another ever since. Jannie is a Senior Analyst for a Pharmaceutical company and Lavelay is a Scientist for a Biotech company. They have two beautiful children together. They enjoy traveling, dressing up, and going out for dinner, and dancing, but also love binge-watching a good TV series. Their favorite place to travel so far has been Jamaica and they are still exploring, so that could change.
When it comes to understanding how they have made it this long, they give credit to the fact that they went into marriage with realistic expectations and had already had many conversations about what to expect and what they needed to work on. They found that the hardest part about marriage was learning to compromise and picking their battles. Overcoming those battles are recognizing and acknowleding that they are both on the same team, fighting for the same cause. They feel couples need to realize that in order to be happily married and have a successful marriage. They keep the love alive and fresh by always making time for each other and planning mini-dates. Especially when it comes to celebrating their anniversary, they try to make it really special. When it comes to staying committed and faithful to one another, they believe their strong Christian faith is what grounds them. They are firm believers that marriage is of God that is meant to be kept sacred.
Their favorite quote for their marriage is: “A great marriage is not when a “perfect couple” come together, is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.” Their advice to a soon-to-be or newly, a married couple is to remember your commitment to each other and always surround yourself with people who will help strengthen their marriage.
